Nevertheless, we all want a healthy oral cavity as adults, and that begins with having healthy teeth as children. Therefore, as parents, it is essential that you take care of your children’s oral cavity as early as possible and teach them proper oral hygiene care that they can continue into adulthood.

We highly recommend visiting the dentist when your child’s first tooth erupts or as soon as they turn one. Early oral examination helps in the detection of early stages of tooth decay and other dental problems. To maintain a healthy oral cavity, early detection of oral problems is important.

Oral health is an integral part of the overall health of children. According to a journal article in Pediatric Child’s Health, oral health can affect the social, functional and psychological aspects of a child’s well-being. Communication, self-esteem, socialization, and even school attendance are all affected by poor oral health.

From the time your child is born, you can start taking care of their oral cavity. For babies, clean teeth with a clean and soft cloth or you can use a baby’s toothbrush. Don’t put your baby to bed with a bottle and regularly check stains and spots on their teeth.

For children, use a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste as soon as they turn two. You can start sooner if their dentist recommends it. For children younger than 6, make sure to watch them brush their teeth and ensure that they spit after brushing.

Lastly, don’t forget to schedule a regular dental visit for your children.
