Gingivitis, also known as periodontal disease, is the medical terms for early gum disease – originating from the gums as a result of the buildup of bacteria, which is caused by food that remains in gums and teeth after eating. In most cases, this gum condition goes unnoticed. What many don’t know is that the infections from gingivitis can cause gum and tooth separation – creating an even higher risk of further disease and decay.<\/span><\/p>\n

Early Signs Of Gingivitis As already mentioned, gingivitis can go unnoticed. However, knowing some of the first signs can help you treat the condition. You should get concerned when you notice symptoms such as:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Minor bleeding when brushing or flossing your teeth – the most common early symptom.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Chronic bad breath that makes people around you uncomfortable.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Tender and or painful swollen gums.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Pocket formation between the teeth and gums.<\/span><\/p>\n

Causes of Gingivitis<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

It is important to remember that the origins of gum disease are usually a result of long-term exposure to oral plaque build up.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Plaque is a soft and sticky film full of bacteria that accumulate on your teeth. If not removed through flossing or bushing, the bacteria is what causes gum disease and tooth decay.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Plaque also forms after sleeping. It is advisable to clean teeth after eating, smoking, or sleeping.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hormonal changes in the body of an expectant mother are also a known cause of gingivitis. These hormones cause an increased flow of blood to the gum tissue. It results in sensitivity, irritability and the inability for the body to fight gum infections.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gingivitis Treatment<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Observe oral hygiene. Properly brush and floss your teeth after eating and sleeping.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Look into root planning. Root planning involves the cleaning and scrapping of below the gum line. The advantages of this procedure when successful include having smooth roots and reattachment of the gum to the teeth structure.<\/span><\/p>\n
