How to Floss your Teeth Properly?
Who would have thought that a piece of string could improve your oral health? Dental floss is a string of thin filament used to remove food residues or debris caught between teeth and gums or area that a toothbrush can’t reach.
The use of floss has been a powerful tool to improve dental health for many years now. It helps remove plaque and prevents the formation of tartar, a hardened plaque. Therefore, we highly recommend daily flossing. It is crucial to avoid the accumulation of tartar in your mouth because it can cause gingivitis and can eventually result in tooth loss. If you don’t want this to happen, you must learn how to floss your teeth properly.
- Floss daily! You can floss before or after brushing your teeth. Just remember to floss at least once daily. Start with 18 inches of dental floss. Wind it around your index or middle finger and leave about two inches of floss to work with.
- Hold the floss between your thumbs and index fingers, then move it in an up and down motion between your teeth. Use your thumb to guide the floss between your upper teeth and use your index fingers to direct the floss between your lower teeth.
- Contour the floss around the base of your tooth, forming a C shape. Go beneath the gum line but be careful not to let the floss snap, as it may cut your gum tissue. As you floss from one tooth to the next, use a clean section of the dental floss.
Now you know how to floss your teeth properly. Make sure to follow the method above and floss at least once a day to keep your teeth and gums healthy. At Dr. Sidarous and Associates, your dental health and well-being is our top priority. Visit us now in Saint-Laurent!
